Ok so by now if you have not seen the camel happily walking through, what we are led to believe is his place of work asking people what day it is; you probably don’t have a TV or you are probably not able to read this post so it won’t really matter anyway.
We have all, at one point or another thought, “Man, it is hump day. The weekend is almost here!” Or sometimes we say that about our finances, “If I could just work a couple extra hours this week or pick up a part time this, that, or another; I could get some money and then get over THE HUMP”
Ah, the dreaded “HUMP”! What is your “HUMP” that you are trying to get over? Is it Physical, Financial, Mental, Emotional, or dare I ask it is just a PERCEIVED hump? I want to challenge you today to think of the word in a different way. I am not saying that my way is better or worse; it is just different.
Since I have recently adopted this, It is still a work in progress but I personally, think over everyday as HUMP day; because this is what “HUMP” stands for to me! It is kinda my marching orders or action plan, if you will.
HUMP to me now stands for “HANDLE, UNDERMINE, & MASTER PROBLEMS”. You see issues will always arise, but it is only a problem if you won’t or don’t handle the issue. So I will share with you a few things that have worked for me, when it comes time for me to get my “HUMP ON”
HANDLE: Most of the time when we encounter an issue, sometimes we think to ourselves or fear that we can’t handle it, for whatever reason; bad timing, etc. Well, every issue that came into my life that was less than desirable, was not ever on my schedule. This is where most rigid personalities or people who don’t like change suffer. When we make a DECISION backed by action, then we can begin the process to handle our issue.
This is where we generally say the “Serenity Prayer”; you know: “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference”. Once we accept that we CAN handle things once we have assessed the damage, resources available, and begin a course of action.
UNDERMINE: This is the toughest part, in my opinion. We have to take what we know that we can do, use our resources and stop this issue from becoming a problem. This is where you need to hit the “PAUSE” button on your life and situation and get brutally honest with yourself. If not, it will become a problem.
In order to undermine any plan, you have to account for the thing in which you want to undermine. Whether that means to: hurry up, wait; buy this, sell that; make a call or send an email; make a request or answer an inquiry. You have two choices fix this issue or get whooped by a problem. The choice is ALWAYS yours.
MASTER: Once you have successfully undermined your issue and it has not graduated to the level of a problem, congratulations! You are 3/4 of the way there. What’s left? I am glad you asked. You need to put safeguards in place so that way when something arises again.
You already know what to do and you can execute quickly and more efficiently. One piece of advice I would offer in this scenario is having an accountability partner to help keep you on track and cheer you on!
Once you get implement your own “H.U.M.P.” system, everyday you can be as happy as a camel on “HUMP DAY” and you can be assured that whenever you think your issues may become a PROBLEM, you have it handled!
