What’s “WHAT” These Days?

Since the Mid-90′s the popularity of the internet has gone hog-wild exponentially; and seems to grow wilder and wilder each passing year.

We have become accustomed to phrases like “The Information Superhighway”, “The Web”, or “The Net” So with everything at our fingertips, and by everything I mean EVERYTHING, when it comes to researching how to build a business or how to develop strong business skills for ourselves; how can we tell What’s “WHAT” these days?

How can you know what you should know? Where should you go to be in “The Know”? How will I know when I come across something that I should know right away, or throw it all away?

Well, these are all ready good answers and I am glad that you asked them. So I am going to share with you some of the things that I think are “Common Sense” things, when you look at them from a layman’s point of view, that can be applied to anything.

Here me explain some of them here:

CONSIDER THE SOURCE: Yes, it is true that any person with  computer and internet access can make a website. Bearing that in mind, you want to investigate the source of any advice that you percieve; online or offline.

Make sure that someone is an authority on a subject. It is not wise to value advice from someone about a subject who is regurgitating theory with no practical experience or case study to support their claim. Always inspect what you expect.

AGENDAS: Everyone has an agenda, yes everyone. Some agendas are just more cleverly veiled than others. The thing really exposes an agenda is time… I love the saying, “Time Proves All Things True”.

If something is true it will stand the test of time. Even scientists use this to take something that is a scientific theory and make it a scientific fact.

“PUDDING PROOF”: I will use and have used this as a basis for measurement for a very long time! If something is EVIDENT, then there will be EVIDENCE.You know, something or visible proof to support any claims.

Just because I am wet, doesn’t necessarily mean that it is raining; especially if you are the one who just peed on my leg. A little graphic, but you get the picture.

I can totally appreciate the sentiment, “If this is the Information Highway, then let me off at the next exit.” There is so much out there, but you owe it to yourself and those that depend on you to know things to ensure that you know the right things and their validity.

One other thing that I should mention is a Navigator or Mentor; someone to lead you through murky waters of uncertainty. I won’t camp out here because I could go on but and I don’t want an epic long post today.

Simply find someone that can guide you through success. I have been that for others as it has been done for me. The benefits are priceless, so find someone who has the “Been There, Done That” T-shirt and remain teachable, coachable, and trainable and all will be well.

I hope you enjoyed today’s post and I urge you to… Make it a great day!

Hi Tony,
Thank you for some great ideas about finding out “what’s what.” LOL.
Team building is a very important skill which can be learned by everyone, but one needs to know what they are doing, or no one will follow! You have to be in the game and it takes time to acquire this skill. And yes, we need to look for people’s agenda, as knowing their agenda is a clue as to whether we want to team with them or not. Mentoring is another important part of team building. Whether you are mentoring or being mentored, it is important to connect with like-minded people that are ethical and professional.
Thank you for this thought-provoking post!

I hoping to get to meet you one day, while I’m still in Jax, so that your knowledge, wisdom, and success will transfer over to me. :) Thank you for all that you do.
